Week One

Tuesday, March 27th:
Through this course, I hope to gain an understanding of the various dimensions of community nutrition. I am especially looking forward to hearing from the speakers and getting a chance to explore the Athens community in a different way. In addition, I have never gotten a chance to do any gardening and I am excited to grow some produce!
When I think of community nutrition, the first thing that pops into my mind is giving back to the community. I imagine this field of nutrition to open the possibility of helping individuals with little to no cost for them (in some instances). Through providing nutrition education and counseling, free meals, and the promotion of good health to members of a community, it gives individuals a chance to improve or maintain overall well-being.

Thursday, March 29th:
The 60 Minutes segment about The Line was a personal wake up call for me. I've spent my entire life living in a bubble - my hometown, Hudson, Ohio, is a wealthy suburb and I have spent the past 5 years living in the OU campus bubble. It definitely opened up my mind to what is actually going on around me and has made me very grateful for how hard my parents worked to provide for our family.
